Part 2 of 3: Verde-Jackson report by Tessa Sibbet
We took advantage of a very rainy Friday afternoon to partake in Jackson’s annual beer drinking party, Oktoberfest, at the local brew pub. Lederhosen, schnitzel and sausages were aplenty, and untraditional cheers erupted occasionally. The brewpub was extraordinarily crowded and noisy, loosely mirroring the beer halls at the original Oktoberfest in Munich. Dressed in our casual work attire, we opted to focus on the beer tasting aspect of this wonderful holiday and were happy to try some of SRB’s seasonal ales. All of the beers listed below are locally brewed by Snake River Brewing Company.
Alpinefest Lager: An Oktobertest style beer with a caramel flavor, this beer excited and delighted. It had the perfect hoppiness for a cold fall day.
Rolling Thunder Dortmunder: Just the name was enough to make us want to try this lager, named after the German city of Dortmund. It’s a well-balanced, light, refreshing brew and it just so happened to win at the Great American Beer Festival.
Zonker Stout: We love stouts in the fall. Something about the richness of a dark beer is perfect for shorter days and celebrating with friends. The Zonker is a rich, well balanced stout made with a generous amount of roasted barley. Ok, that’s what they said. I couldn’t actually taste the roasted barley, but it was really good! Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup winner.
