BOULDER, Colo. – (December 11, 2008) - Boulder County residents recently approved Ballot Measure 1A that allows residential and commercial property owners to receive financing for home improvements in renewable energy.
Lighthousesolar attended the December 2nd workshop that sought public comment to help define the new ClimateSmart loan program for both residential and commercial properties. The County will initially issue special assessment bonds up to $40 million for residential property owners interested in solar power or other energy efficiency improvements starting as soon as February 2009.
Commercial properties will be assessed in terms of the financial scope necessary for the business sector but commercial properties will not be included in the initial $40 million financing. Since the program is voluntary, residents will not face a countywide tax increase as the loans are paid through individual property taxes.
Lighthousesolar offers various solar energy technologies eligible for the ClimateSmart Loan Program. Projects that qualify for funds under the district are currently being assessed by the County, along with rules and procedures for the program and will be approved by the Boulder County Commissioners in January 2009. All projects must be approved as per the program guidelines and requirements outlined in the application process. The anticipated start date for the financing application process is February 2009.
