Company Profile

The Conservation Alliance is an organization of outdoor businesses whose collective contributions support grassroots environmental organizations and their efforts to protect wild places where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. Alliance funds have played a key role in protecting rivers, trails, wildlands and climbing areas.

Membership in the Alliance is open to companies representing all aspects of the outdoor industry, including manufacturers, retailers, publishers, mills and sales representatives. The result is a diverse group of businesses whose livelihood depends on protecting our natural environment.

Since its inception in 1989, the Alliance has contributed more than $9.5 million to grassroots environmental groups. Alliance funding has helped save over 50.5 million acres of wildlands; 28 dams have either been stopped or removed; and the group helped preserve access to more than 18,500 miles of waterways and several climbing areas.

BACKYARD COLLECTIVE VISION:
To bring together outdoor industry companies for a day of collective action in our back yard!

WHO: You! We are looking for volunteers from Conservation Alliance member companies &
friends who are able to volunteer a few hours to show our industry’s commitment to making a
difference in our community.

WHAT: To bring together outdoor industry companies for a day of collective action in your back
yard! With the help of Save our Canyons, The Conservation Alliance will be hosting a day of
environmental service. The day will include an afternoon of trail maintenance and invasive plant
species removal, and an after-party which will be held at Black Diamond Equipment in conjunction
with their Salt Lake Climber's Association fundraiser party. There will be a volunteer fair during the
after-party which will highlight other local Conservation Alliance grantees and will introduce you
and your employees to additional ways to make a difference in your community.

When: 6/23/2011
Afternoon volunteer session: 1:00-5:00
After party, BBQ, & Volunteer Fair: 5:00-7:00

WHERE: Volunteers will meet at Black Diamond Equipment and head to the worksite from there.

COMMITMENT: Each company will be asked to contribute $300 to help sponsor the event.
With this sponsorship you will receive the following:
• Space for a 10x10 company tent to be displayed at the BYC event and the After Party
• You company will be highlighted as a BYC sponsor in all PR efforts

Entrance into the Salt Lake City Climbers Alliance After Party where food and drink will be provided

All equipment, tools and instruction will be provided. No experience necessary. Participants should dress in comfortable clothing that can get dirty. The program will run in a light rain, but will be rescheduled in the case of a full storm!

Save the Date for The Conservation Alliance Breakfast  SheltonJohnsonon Friday, August 5th at The Marriott in Salt Lake City.  Our guest speaker is novelist, award-winning poet, and Yosemite National Park Ranger, Shelton Johnson. Johnson played a prominent role  played in Ken Burns' documentary about the National Parks, and was instrumental in convincing Oprah Winfrey to visit Yosemite last year. He has been an outspoken advocate for increasing diversity in the National Parks. His talk, "Diversity and Wilderness" will focus on our need to build a conservation ethic among communities of color to ensure that our Natural Parks and Wilderness areas enjoy broader support. Johnson is author of the novel Gloryland (Sierra Club Books). The Conservation Alliance Breakfast is open to the public, so bring a friend!

Keep It Wild Day at Summer OR

Join the Conservation Alliance and several of our member companies in the celebration of Keep It Wild Day, on Friday, August 5, Day 2 of the Summer Outdoor Retailer Show. Keep It Wild Day will kick off with The Conservation Alliance Breakfast and continue though out the day.  Nevade Wilderness ProjectVisit Alliance member company booths to take action on behalf of Conservation Alliance Grantees stationed in those booths. Cap off Day 2 of the show at the KEEN booth for The Conservation Alliance Keep It Wild Party, a celebration of environmental action, featuring Timmy O'Neil as MC, The Keep It Wild Recess, featuring silly games, refreshments, and chances to win some great prizes.

Throughout the show, member companies will also be hosting fundraising events on behalf of The Conservation Alliance, offering great gear at screaming deals. If your company would like to host a fundraising event during the OR Show, or have a Conservation Alliance grantee in your booth during Keep It Wild Day, please email Serena (serena@conservationalliance.com) for details.
