As we round out 2008, The Conservation Alliance makes its final disbursements for the year. Doling out $450k, this final disbursement of conservation grants brings their grand total to $900k in 2008, and $7M since its inception in 1989.

Conservation Alliance to Launch Online Conservation Community and Social Networking Site

The Conservation Alliance will launch a new program called ConservationNEXT, which is designed to give individuals in the outdoor industry the opportunity to engage with Conservation Alliance grantees, and provide a place to connect with each other on-line. The ConservationNEXT site will officially go live on August 8, 2008 at the Outdoor Retailer show. Conservationnext.com will be the focal point of the Alliance’s effort to encourage individual involvement in conservation efforts.

Here's some follow-up news about the success of the recent Backyard Initiative, led by the Conservation Alliance and several bay area outdoor companies, including the North Face, Camelbak and REI. In partnership with Oakland-based nonprofit Save the Bay, more than 80 employees from seven Bay Area outdoor industry companies got their hands dirty in the name of conservation.

The grassroots conservation effort resulted in over 100 pounds of trash being removed from the shoreline and the planting of 864 native seedlings.

To put their work into perspective, the 82 volunteers who came out for this event worked the equivalent of 6 people working a full 40-hour work week.

Conservation Alliance Ad Auction Begins

Online auction of ad space from leading publications runs through Friday, May 8

Bend, Ore., May 1, 2009 – The Conservation Alliance’s third annual Ads for the Earth Auction, an online sale of advertising space, kicked off today, and runs through Friday, May 8. The auction consists of ad space donated by Alpinist, Backcountry, Backpacker, Men’s Journal, National Geographic Adventure, Outside, Paddler, Sierra, Telemark Skier, and Wend magazines.

All proceeds from the auction will go into The Conservation Alliance’s grant fund to support efforts to protect wild places throughout North America. Each publication has donated one full-page, four-color ad. Winning bidders may use the ad space anytime within 12 months after the close of the auction (May 2009-May 2010)
